Access Health Louisiana to offer free sports physical and immunizations for students

Access Health Louisiana is organizing a mobile sports physical and immunization drive for the St. Charles Parish Public School district through the end of May, according to Chenier Reynolds-Montz, the senior vice president of school and strategic media for AHL.
“This is a great opportunity for parents who cannot leave work to take their child to get a physical or immunizations,” Reynolds-Montz said.
She said parents should reach out to the AHL’s school-based health centers to find out when the mobile health unit will be going to their child’s campus this spring. Parents must complete a brief consent form for their child to receive free immunizations or a sports physical during the mobile drive. An LHSAA release form must also be completed for sports physicals.
“We are proud to extend the mobile sports physical and immunization drives to St. Charles Parish Public School students,” Reynolds-Montz said. “Our goal is to work hand in hand with school districts to help keep kids healthy so that they can achieve their full academic potential.”
Free physicals can also be scheduled at AHL’s school-based health centers. AHL operates medical and behavioral health centers at Albert Cammon Middle School/St. Rose Elementary and J.B. Martin Middle School/ R.J. Vial Elementary. AHL’s behavioral health centers are located at Destrehan High School, Hahnville High School and Luling Elementary.
AHL’s school-based health centers provide medical and behavioral health services to St. Charles Parish Public School students with no out of pocket expense to parents. Services are provided to students regardless of whether they have insurance or not.
For students to be seen at one of the school-based health centers, parents must complete a consent and enrollment form for their child. Consent forms may be completed digitally through Access Health Louisiana’s website or by calling the school-based health centers directly and requesting that a consent form be sent via email.
Parents of students attending schools without a health center can still schedule appointments by calling one of the school-based health centers.
Reynolds-Montz said AHL’s school-based centers provide continuity of care for children during the day.
“Our advanced practice nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, and medical assistants work closely with St. Charles Parish School District registered nurses and school counselors to provide high quality care to children where they spend most of their time — at school,” she said.
She said many of AHL’s providers and employees grew up in St. Charles Parish and now call it home.
“Our employees love their community and love using their talents to make a positive impact on the lives of their friends, families and neighbors,” she said.
AHL also operates the St. Charles Parish Community Health Centers in Norco and Luling. The AHL Pharmacy is housed inside the Luling clinic at 843 Milling Avenue and provides medications at affordable prices, free home delivery of medications to St. Charles Parish residents, and prescription discount programs. Families needing medical, behavioral health, psychiatry, dental, or WIC services can receive care by scheduling an in-person or telehealth appointment.
