PLT Health’s Serezin improves restorative sleep within a week, study reveals

A novel study has found that PLT Health Solutions’ branded nutraceutical, Serezin, can improve sleep quality, elevate mood and increase total sleep time.1

Serezin, which contains a proprietary blend of Boswellia serrata and ginger extracts, was tested in 60 healthy adults aged between 50 and 70, with participants receiving either 300mg of the ingredient or a placebo.

Results, which are published in Sleep, show that the Serezin can also reduce both daytime and nighttime discomfort by reducing the prevalence of standard aches and pains associated with ageing.

Participants experienced a 64% improvement in restorative sleep by week four

PLT will be presenting the results of this clinical study at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Conference, which is to be held between June 7–11 in Seattle, US.

Dawna Salter-Farfan, PLT’s Senior Clinical Research Manager, will be conducting a poster session Wednesday, 6/11/2025, at 10:00 AM, which will present data specifically on results seen in female participants.

“We are making these presentations to ensure our research on Serezin reaches a wider audience,” commented Dr Salter-Farfan.

“At the event, we’ll be showing data demonstrating Serezin’s capacity to improve sleep quality and quantity, but with a special emphasis on the improvements shown within the female-only cohort of our study.”

According to Dr Salter-Farfan, Serezin works by providing relief from nighttime aches and pains, meaning users can unlock the benefits of restorative sleep.

The study’s results

During the four week study period, supplementation with Serezin exhibited a range of benefits, including:

  • Improved restorative sleep: During the study, those given Serezin woke up feeling more rested and restored within the first week, with a 64% improvement in restorative sleep experienced by week four

  • Reduced aches and pains: Supplementation with Serezin could also reduce pain scores in one week. By day 28, participants randomised to Serezin experienced a 2.6x greater reduction in nighttime discomfort, on top of a 75% reduction in daytime discomfort

  • Reduced time to sleep: By day 14, those taking Serezin found it 85% easier to get to sleep than those taking the placebo

  • Sleep quality improvements: Sleep quality, as assessed by the Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire, was increased by 93% in those taking Serezin daily

  • Helping users wake up: Within two weeks of the study, those taking Serezin reported having a significantly easier time waking up in the morning, while feeling more alert

  • Mood-boosting effects: A validated mood survey covering tension, depression, anger, vigour, fatigue and confusion was used, which revealed that Serezin supplementation could improve overall mood starting from week two.

“Cognitive health is an intense area of interest and innovation at PLT today, with a broad portfolio that addresses Cognitive Performance, Mental Energy, Stress and Mood and Sleep and Relaxation,” commented Steve Fink, Vice President of Marketing for PLT.

“Serezin is an exciting ingredient in the sleep space because it features a different approach to promoting restorative sleep than many of the ingredients on the market today. We feel that this study can help consumer products companies develop compelling, trustworthy messaging for a new generation of sleep support products,” he concluded.
